I think you are spot on with your observation. I have not done any performance mods (other than tires) on my SRT6. Stock, it is faster than most other cars. I still have a factory warranty through 2012 and as a result have kept it stock.
However, from a style standpoint, I have done a number of modifications. All of which have been done so as to look like it came from the factory that way. A very exclusive club indeeed.

Also, you can easily pick up a rebuilt SC for these engines for about $1,400, and I have seen them for less than a grand on eBay. I realize that is still not cheap, but cost is also relative to your budget. In the unfortunate event that I were to have a SC go bad, that amount of money would not alter my life any. Once again it is a relative thing.
