Gear Gears, the difference in the rear gears is really not significant. From a start the auto and its torque gain will give you the advantage and hole shot. It gets you into the rpm range quicker and has a torque multipication function.
Why are the drag cars running automatics if it were not for the advantage and reduced 'shock breakage' of the automatic gearbox. Down low the power curve of the S/C will lay waste to the n/a.
