I think to get more cold air in that intake is replace the front and lower grill with those mesh grill.

Thats not exactly true. I have removed the plastic piece that the tubes from the air box go into. The stock size is about 2 1/2 inches wide after removing this piece it is about
3 3/4 to 4 inches wide. This would even let you run the filter in the grill as opposed to behind it. actualy changing the grill for mesh wont do squat to increase air flow to an intake.
