I've always been very concerned about stuff like this...I'm guessing the accident was pretty bad. I had a 2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V that was rear-ended and caused OVER $10,000 in damage (car was $19,000 new). They fixed it, but didn't total out the car or cause a salvaged title. I was in SHOCK and promptly sold the car to a dealer.
I don't know if they used the retail price or current market value, but either way would have been more than $8000 in damage to cause a Salvage title I would think...
