Yea, its just not worth it. If the water ump is that far gone, its probably eaten the impeller up, which means little no water will be flowing through the cooling system, you could potentially blow one or both headgaskets, or do worse.

And if the shaft failed and the pulley came off, i would cause unholy destruction under hood
