I think the one you are talking about was going to be at Monticello Motorsports. Which is why this came as an even bigger surprise when they announced Austin as the elected location. They are actually going to build the F1 race track from the ground up, in two years time in Austin. It will be a huge draw to Austin (which is already an amazing city).

My personal opinion is that they placed it in Austin to try and get the Central/South American audience an incentive to come. It is in a nice central location for the Americas, and lord knows the Europeans don't need motivation to fly over to see the race.

I'm quite excited about this, seeing as this will also bring other major auto events to the Austin region. Can't wait, already have a buddy looking into talking to the right people for media passes for opening day in a couple years.

Glad to see F1 back in the US
