I have read on GPS forums about units not locking on due to the car having an electric heated windshield. These cars actually have a micro-thin sheet of metal laminated between two pieces of glass causing the GPS signals to be blocked or shielded. Not sure if your windshield is the problem or not.

Maybe someone can chime in if a remote antenna can be hooked up to the unit?
