Yikes! The dealer wants $3k to replace the computer and yet he's not sure of the problem.

It very well could be that your rear cargo compartment divider is not making a good connection. Maybe sitting in the heat causes it to to expand enough that the computer reads that it's not in place. May sure it is unfolded and secured. If it's not, the computer will not let the top go down.
