The clutch has a system that applies constant pressure to the fingers to compensate for the wearing of the friction material on the disc. Odds are you're probably at the end of the clutch life which means theres no more room for the adjusters to take up the slack.
The throwout bearing is internal, it bolts to the transmission over the input shaft. You could try bleeding the system, you could potentially have some air trapped which is causing the mushy pedal/engagement problems
