Kill the zip ties, they melt. Use a stainless steel hose clamps. They come in all sizes at Lowes. Mine have lasted a year and lots of events and races.

To do the rubber thingy, I made a tool with a coat hanger, ran it thru and pulled on the rubber with both ends. Then I had windex handy and used it instead of soap.
