The extended warranty on my coupe already paid for a new supercharger ($6,000). Makes $1350 look real cheap!
X2----This guy is GREAT!!! I will say that warranties are a BET, but nothing made by man last forever. Actually, everything that God has ever made has died---so NOTHING is made to last. Cars are mechanical and WILL malfunction at some point in time. With so many different systems, it is really just a matter of time---when not if. I made a great living for ten years on these break downs at my repair shop---so it happens with new cars, as well as, old ones .
I paid $2035.00 for 5 years/ 70,000 miles MAX CARE. My price was higher than most due to the fact that I had ZERO warranty on the car. The 5 years started at my purchase of the contract NOT the in-service date and the mileage is 70k MORE than what was on the car at purchase. For 70,000 more miles, it will cost me just 2.9 cents per mile for this coverage---not bad for a car with an AMG motor. Since the supercharger alone is 6 to7 grand, not a bad bet. A/C components fail with time not just miles because even at rest, the static pressure is 75 psi---twice the pressure in the tires holding up the car, so seals are ALWAYS under stress---they will give before 10 years, just like tires dry rot. I plan to get most the money back on just the A/C by the middle of 2015 or 73,052 miles. Also, this is my daily driver, so I will be driving (and GRINNING) to over 70k.
For a Toyota Camry, a warranty may not be a great deal. Even for the Base and Limited Crossfires, one could argue against the warranties, but for a supercharged, limited numbered SRT---I placed the bet. I have not only seen the repair bills on a Mercedes, but I wrote them. One member is having the clutch on the supercharger done at a $1,800 plus tab, and that is just ONE part---the supercharger maybe bad---if so, add 5 grand. So not only did I take the bet, I still think that it was a good one at under 3 cents per mile.
