Mine honestly depends on the dirtiness.

If we've had a few days of heavy rain, where the car gets all blacked up from the asphalt/road grime, then I break out the bucket.

I've cheated and used the auto wash a handful of times since ownership. I avoid it at all costs though. If I must, it's touchless only (for rinsing salt in the winter).

If the weather stays in a dry pattern, I mostly hit the few dirty spots with Meguiar's quick detailer. Much faster than a full blown washing process. But, I use discernment. If I have to use half a bottle to get the car presentable, it would've been best to simply use the standard wash.

As far as soaps go, get the good stuff from Meguiar's. The soap is yellow; retail is around $10. It's carnuba-based so it'll leave a wonderful shine.
