Had exact same scenario with dealers mechanic when I pointed out to the service writer that the work order and owners manual had different quantites for oil capacity (work order 7.5 qts, owners manual 8.5 qts.). Was told the manual was in error. After oil and filter change mechanic pulled dip stick with engine running. Oil level was mid way between FULL and EMPTY ???? Oil was gravity drained via oil pan drain plug.
