After explaining to the expert what we were looking for, He said, "Ok,I'll tell him" and hangs up. Then he told me the sensor is part of the oil pan and I'd be looking at about $500.00 to get one.
I have an old part number but, I think it is either missing a prefix or possibly it has been superceded?? I gave the dealer this number and they said it's good. It's the only number I can find and now I just wish I could remember which pdf it's in so I can print it out and show it to them to prove I'm not nuts!
05101121AA Oil Level Sensor
Try a Mercedes dealer it'll be cheaper, probably half the price.
From the Crossfire parts list.
05101121AA 1 S 29 EGX SENSOR, Oil Level
05080147AA 1 S 29 EGX SENDING UNIT, Temperature Gauge
The shop manual tells you how to take the unit out, so you obviously do not have to buy anything else.
