Until You mod the engine..
I have no recollection of Merc Autos holding up better.
Three S-body Benzes and all three had tranny issues.
Only one had a modded engine. If you call a gray market European version "Modded"
None were ever at a track, even to just watch.

Running RPMS to 4K and dropping the clutch isn't abuse. It's murder.
Pull that stunt with an auto and see what happens.

You are right about autos providing a more consistant run at the drag strip. Which suggests that the technique of shifting may be a challenge for some to learn.

My stick shifts smoothly and automatically unless I'm thinking about it.
