Re: XFire the way to go? OR NOT?
After driving 4,100 miles in the last week in my Crossfire, and spending a week driving the new Ferrari F430 Scuderia and a Porsche Carrera GT, I figured I should weigh in on the Crossfire compared to the other two I drove...
As far as reliability goes, the Crossfire is friggin' bulletproof, imo. I drove from MN to WA and back through all sorts of conditions and maxed out the car more times than I can count along the way and I never had a single hiccup, stumble, or problem.
Gas isn't even all that expensive since the car gets decent mileage. Even at an average pace of 85-90 MPH, I still managed 26 MPG all day long. If you want fuel efficiency, buy a Prius, but the Crossfire is damn good for the car that it is.
Again, if you're worried about tires, it's going to be the same problem for any other sports car you might be looking at. These cars handle great with a good set of tires. No complaints from me and I've driven some of the best. The steering is numb but the actual mechanical grip this car has is hard to beat for anything at this price point.
I'd say maintenance is going to be on par with most other cars in its class, except when compared to the Mustang perhaps. Compared to my buddy's Carrera GT, it's downright cheap. To put things in perspective, replacing just the clutch on a Carrera GT will cost you more than my Crossfire is worth...new. Oil changes are pricey but in the scheme of things, not that bad.
As others mentioned, replacing body panels can get expensive so that is definitely something to consider if you're accident prone.
I guess that's about it. The Crossfire is, imo, the perfect blend of performance, comfort, and style. I couldn't really ask for anything more... except another 200 HP!
