You're talking as if, by losing, you'll lose something... be it pride, manhood, etc...
When someone wants to race me, if it's even reasonably close I go for it. Winner gets a beer, congrats, and good sportsmanship from the loser.
You're both 19 with nice cars. If he's a second or two faster than you, then lift 50 more pounds than he can at the gym and tell HIM to catch up.
Friendly competition is just that.
