It's ironic that you guys should mention this. This evening I found a thread that explained that the subject tube is a breather tube. The Bosch pump has vented openings on the backside to eliminate the need for the breather tube.

But I also noticed that the OEM hoses looked larger than the ports on the Bosch pump. The pump came with one screw band hose clamp. It's looking like I did the right thing to pick up another one today.
