Legaly it should be recovered and then you can re-use it, but you have two lines for the a/c low pressure and high pressure, you connect R-134 gauges to them and just open the valve a bit and let it go, but then you have to get more freon and re-charge the system after your all done make sure you replace your seals/o-rings and such, and make sure your compressor has enough oil in it as well, see the sticky for shop manual and it should give you all the procedures for this repair.
