Default Re: I hate to keep bringing this up...

I think they are drivers---best bang for the buck on the road, but not a money making investment like a Hemi Cuda, etc from back in the day. More like the Sunbeam Tiger from "Get Smart"---great for its time, but not the best car to put away---that was the only point I was making.

The Xfire makes me think back to the 60's & the Sunbeam Tiger , That was a Sunbeam Alpine with a ford v8 shoe-horned in , So thats a Sunbeam with Ford running gear , it looked better than the same type of cars around at that time sounds great but will never sell for as much as a E-type ,Damiler Dart or an MG & that the draw back a two company car . The Xfire is a keeper but not a investment .

Two comments on my baby, and I just had to comment. Both writers have an opinion that the Tiger is not particularly collectable. Here's the values on Andy's position (The values are from Vehicle Market Research, NADA, and Sports Car Magazine, respectively, and reflect a 1 or 2 car):

Tiger: $27-40k; $43-65k; $65-90k .
MGB: $12-17k; $12-26k; $12-20k .
MGA: $19-26k; $17-34k; $25-35k .
XKE: -------; $65-90K; $50-90k .
Daimler Dart: -------; --------; $28-35k .

On the investment scale Sports Car Magazine gives all cars a B save for the Dart, which only earned a C. Appreciation-wise, the magazine also noted that the Tiger held the best appreciation outlook and the highest appreciation lately of all the cars Andy lists. I have also been watching auction reports and sales, and while prices have been crashing in the market through this economic downturn, of the cars listed only the Tiger continues to show substantive appreciation. I can also say that when the Tiger is shown, there are invariably more people going over it than any other car there (could, admittedly, be a product of 4 Cobras, 9 Vettes, and 1 Tiger).

As to continued appreciation, I believe that the Tiger is solid. A V-8 in a 2 seater is irrepressible. It has a Shelby connection (he built the prototype). It is, believe it or not, eligible at Shelby events, Chrysler events (owned Sunbeam during production and there's a pentastar on the body), British events, sports car events, and Ford events. Contrary to the perception, I submit that Tigers are keepers.

It also appears that the posts sought to point out that two company cars don't do it. Hmmmmm. AC Cobra (Ford 260/289), Iso Grifo (Chevy 327), Facel Vega (assorted Chrysler hemis), Jensen Interceptor (Chrysler 383/440), Morgan Plus 8 (Buick V-8), Siata Barchetta Sport Spider (Crosley), Cunningham C3 (Chrysler 331), TVR (Ford 289), Marcos (Ford 4s and 6s), etc. Save for the Interceptor, the prices on any of these have risen geometrically.

As for two cents, although I would love to have one, the Daimler SP250(Dart) has got to be, simply, the ugliest 2 seater, if not car, ever made.
