Hey Gang,
So, having read through the Tire Review thread, and this thread on the
Hankook Ventus V12 evo 110 tires, I decided to use these as my next set.
I had them installed this afternoon, and I have to say the do look good.
Like some, I went with the stock size up front, but 285x30 size on the the
back.
Chose the 30 series over the 35 because 1) I don't mind back aches
and 2) I liked the idea of keeping as close to correct speedo readings as
possible. Went with the 285 width because I wanted a wider tire and there
was a lot of positive feedback on this size. I had considered the 295, but
even though I had seen at least one or two folks reporting no problems, I
was a little concerned with that much "stretch" on a 9" wide rim.
I really like the look from the rear. Those tires look much wider than the
255 GS-D3s that came off. I think I'll have to drive on them a little before
I make any conclusions, but they sure are quieter. Very quiet. I was
taken a little by surprise, though, when I was leaving the tire store, as I
stepped down on the gas in the normal way to pull out into traffic (55mph)
and the tires spun. Enough so that the rear end started to come around.
I just chalked it up to being brand spanking new and still slippery. The
ride home was fine, but I was a little easier on the gas.
Really, though, I wish Goodyear had continued the GS-D3 series. We
usually get a lot of rain, and many serious downpours, and those tires
were awesome in the heavy rain. Splash right through standing puddles
and never feel a shudder or skitter. If the Hankooks perform anywhere
near as good as that, then they'll get my seal of approval (for what it's
worth).
Thanks for the lead on these tires guys. So far, I like them. Just need
a little time to let that relationship flower.
BTW, if anyone will be near the Dragon next Monday or Tuesday, see if
you can catch me! I'll be moving fast!
