yes, you need to drop the control arm... you have to undo the top nut on the shock so the control arm will drop... but dont HAVE to take the shock out...taking it out makes it much easier and once your that far, it's only one bolt at the bottom.....

I am going to change my front spring pads and will get to do this again myself.....
