Yeah, that's what my Grandpa said back in the day. After all, it's "only a car", right? (Wrong) And when I bought my Corvette in high school my Dad said, "Why do you get a stick shift when they spent millions inventing an automatic transmission!?". lol If you have to ask, you just don't get it.
We looked at lots of plain-jane base models too. I just wasn't looking for that.
Of course, there's never anything wrong with base models or simplicity...if that's what you like.

I wanted cloth because my experience with leather is that it cracks in TX heat. Cloth just seems to last longer if taken care of properly (which I do). I also didn't want electric seats for the exact same reason you are describing. Just another expensive electronic thing to fail. Plus I wanted a black exterior anyway so the base coupe was a better fit for me.
The more electronic gadgets on cars, the more likely to break! Nothing beats doing it the old fashion way. It is not worth the trouble so I would rather just lift a lever than push a button.
