After mine has been stored in the boot for a while, it seems to "shrink" a little bit. That makes it harder to pull down and will result in an inadvertent "slam" if I don't support it with my free hand.

I think everyone has the same issue-if you do not ease it down using both hands-you can damage bits in the assembly.
