Our cars are cool but not racers. And why, if all you wanted was faster traps on the quarter would you go manual?
Who said anything about wanting a supercharger on a car because I wanted faster traps in the 1/4 mile drag strip? Heck, who said anything about drag strips?
I drive mountains, and I run around on actual road course tracks.
Manual is the better transmission for these applications, because it puts the driver 100% in control of the shift points. And with all the different threads about you guys wanting to adjust the shift points, feel, and axle ratios of your automatic cars, it says volumes of what everyone here thinks of the quality of the automatic transmission as a performance transmission.
Also, I live in Denver, which is at 5k feet, and regularly drive anywhere between 5k and 13k feet when i go up in the mountains for a drive. The Supercharger would allow the car to drive pretty much the same during the whole excursion. You will be reminded of this next year, I believe.
I've run both NA and SRT through the Dragon. I'm sure the boost of an SC on a manual would feel good in the pants, but I doubt my run through would be significantly faster. Certainly not worth the dough involved.
And frankly, the stock manual couldn't take the torque.
So far, I haven't seen a single person on this forum put enough hp into a manual transmission to break it.
I've seen a handful have failures because of crappy parts.
But not a single failure because of added hp.
I'm not discounting your very intriguing concept. However, If I was trying to boost a manual NA with serious hardware, I would look at a twin turbo concept. But that's another thread topic.
In the end, Mark is not looking for an SRT but a decent Stick with the less complicated engine.
And fewer hookups with the local deputies.
He should just become friends with all the deputies first, and then he won't have to worry about them at all.
I love all the threads about people doing interesting mods with the Crossfire, like dropping in a Mercedes V-8, or adding a supercharger or a turbo charger to the n/a motor. Makes me think, and shows that they can too.
Personally, I would go with a supercharger, but I would buy the SRT6 pistons and con rods first, then I would redesign the intake manifold to eliminate the flapper valve intake length changing hardware, and go from there. Then you can make full boost, have a better intake design, and go nuts.
But that's just me.
