There is nothing that goes in this hole specifically, why should there be?
When you are making that right hand side foam block you want to save foam, you could make the hole on the under side and thus save material, but if you put the hole on the outside face you have a usable space to store stuff and still save material.
I'm sure the designer never imagined that countless threads would be posted asking what goes in it, the answer is simple, put in it what ever you like as long as it fits.
The first aid kit and safety triangle that came with the car in some countries is strapped against the rear wall of the trunk underneath the latch. See the photo.
