I have been over it a few times. Unfortunately it is about 250 miles from Denver/Colorado Springs. That area is gorgeous, but lodging can be quite expensive. We looked at Durango as the base city and hotels were running about $225/night.

I do highly recommend that if you can make it to that area, do so! The western part of Colorado and Utah are well worth the journey.
