Without snow tires on all four corners parking the car is a smart move.
Even with snow tires you are still at the mercy of idiots who may or may not have snow tires and lack the common sense required to drive safely in any conditions, especially snow.
Raised in England I know that the snow equipment used by the authorities to sand and plow the roads covered in snow is not what we need all winter here as it is rarely needed, especially in the South.
If salt is used on the roads, wash the undersides of the car as soon as possible. Rust will appear like magic in the hidden crevices under the car. Using car washes is not much good as they may filter the water but the wash water is virtually a brine solution.
