If this was at intermittant fault, once the car first started, wouldn't the car run until the gas ran out...???
After the car was running, couldn't you actually disconnect the battery cable and it would continue running on power from the alternator.
Am I off the mark on this train of thought...???

that was the way on the older diesel engines because they ran on compression rather than spark.
if you dont have a battery to hold the charge the ecu and coil packs would drain the battery long beofre the engine runs out of gas. alternator charges the battery but doesnt power the electricals the battery does
