In Pennsylvania, I believe when it's 2 or 3/32's it fails inspection. Ask the mechanic to show you the remaining pad depth with a gauge, not eye balling the depth of the pad.
Hit the search button for brake pads/rotors for a search on an upgrade from the stock set-up....
