The quick answer (IMHO) is that if this is a cover for a garaged XF, then a cheapie (~$40) from WalMart does the trick -- I've been using them for 6 years and they have no padding so no lint. If the cover is for outside use, you want a fitted cover so it does not flap and allow debris underneath to scratch the vehicle. There are both oem and aftermarket fitted covers available (google is your buddy) but expect to pay $180>.
I will say that I fooled with Cheapie covers in the past. I took out the checkbook and paid the 180. When I got the cover I was greatly impressed with the quality. For indoor covers I recomend the "dustop" cover and have it custom fit with pockets for side mirrors. I live in a dusty area and it is amazing at keeping the dust off. Plus the inside is lined with a very soft fabric and I assume great for the paint. Covers the car perfect and looks great! You can really see the lines of the car even when it is covered. I originally thought 180 was too much for just a cover and all covers are created equal. Once I got the cover I never would have guessed that it would be the best 180 I ever spent.
