I don't think the car is going into "limp" mode. Limp home mode doesn't allow you to shift out of second gear. When the IC pump goes, the computer simply disengages the SC. The FI engine has a lower compression ratio and 100 extra pounds. I think it may be this that makes it feel slower that the N/A.
