Once you have verified that the harness you see is the feed for the siren, I would be tempted to fit the new unit in the engine bay and take the wiring straight to it. You could chop the wiring, - leave the original siren in place disconnected. use some push connectors, so you could re connect the to the old siren when/if you part with the car. If you can see the colours of the wires, you can check against wiring diagram to make sure before starting. Removing the wiper arms and trim to get at the siren is a pain! Let us know how you get on.
