I bought a replacement key for my Mercedes-Benz SLK230 Kompressor at the Mercedes dealership and it cost me 173ish including tax. They ordered it from Germany. I had to sign a bunch of papers, give my insurance and registration information at the time of purchase.
It came in 2 weeks later. When it did I asked about all the paperwork...they need to verify ownership and then the sales guy said that he had to be held responsible for the key. I guess they are serious about theft management.
When I complained to my brother he laughed. His Ford Excursion key cost 250 and they cut it in the shop.
