DAS will definitely work with a Crossfire - under the covers, including the ECU and electronics, it's just an R170 SLK-class. That's how the Mercedes engine swaps are done without needing to hack the ECU: using DAS in developer mode.
As far as I know the only people who know how to do anything to the Crossfire with a $20 cable (Galletto) are Eurocharged, and that's because they've disassembled the raw ECU dumps so they can just modify the flashes and reflash, rather than sending the ECU configuration commands DAS-style (and hence they can do more than DAS in some respects, like editing fuel mappings, and less in others, like resynchronizing VINs and keys). To the best of my knowledge the configuration protocol DAS uses is encrypted and has not been reverse-engineered.
While a lot of the modules are the same between the Crossfire and the SLK there are a few, such as the SRS system, that are not and will require the use of a DRB-III.
