You have a Benz under that pretty sheet metal. Pure and simple, a Benz.
They are the"best engineered cars in the world." Which is arguably true, but they are built with the same bean counter cheap parts as many lessor cars. The BCM in some cases, is just fragile.
But the Crossies are not lemons, or money pits. Any more than the comparable Benz 320 slk would be.
I have owned Benzes for many years and find one cannot visit the dealer for less than a grand. But, you seldom need to go to the dealer because they are well built cars.
Assuming prices in the UK reflect prices in the US, you bought your SRT for about 1/2 of what it should be worth. It is after all, an AMG Benz. Get past what it is worth on the market and remember what it is worth intrinsicaly. You will never find a meaner street legal car for the money hands down.
And generaly they don't break down often. It just pinches the wallet when they do.

BTW your 2006 is a rare year for the SRT. Congrats on the find.
