It is a must to get the best for your tires.
And DW from Continental are
I'm going with either Conti Extreme Contact DW or Dunlop Sport Maxx TT on an SRT-6 I just bought. But I'll stick with one tire type all around in the stock size. Just curious, why you chose to mix an all season tire in front with a max performance tire at the rear? The car has inherent understeer characteristics with the stock alignment. The less sticky all season tires in front will just exacerbate that problem.
According to tire rack testing, the Conti Extreme Contact DW...
- More comfortable ride
- Less noise
- Better tread wear (340 UTQG)
And the Dunlop Sport Maxx TT...
- Better grip on wet roads
- Better dry road braking
- Drastically better wet braking
- Worse tread wear (240 UTQG)
Note, I'm used to extreme performance tires. The Dunlop Star Specs on my S2000 have a tread wear rating of 200 and the OEM tires on that car were Bridgestone RE050's with a tread wear rating of 140. I'm more concerned with absolute performance than wear. If any of you guys are running the Conti DW, how do you like them (dry, wet, noise, ride, braking, steering response).
The car will never see snow or even temps near freezing. It will be a 7 month car April - October in New England. So, all season tires aren't necessary. I have two SUV's for that.
I've never owned Conti tires. I've used Bridgestones extensively, some Michelin & Pirelli, and one set of Dunlop. I understand Conti has a pretty good reputation, definitely not a Kumho or Hankook. How is the quality in general? Does Conti stand behind their product?
Oh yeah, and here's a brand to stay away from. I blew two BF Goodrich KDWS (both rears) at 144 MPH on a straight. Both were sidewall blowouts. Sounded like gunshots. By the time I stopped, the tires were molten rubber around the outer sidewall. I won't be buying any more BF Goodrich tires.
