And I still prefer to change the oil "the old fashioned way". I still get under the car and drain the oil sump. I just feel that this method gets more of the old oil out of the system vs. suctioning the oil out from the motor's top. IMO

Others more familiar with the suction or syphon approach are better able to state if there is any signifcant difference.

And here's another tip I got from The Forum. If you start doing your own oil changes, add new oil via the filter housing instead of the oil fill opening. Passageway from the filter housing will drain oil into the sump much faster.

If you're going to continue having the dealer perform the oil change, buy your own oil (8 qts) & filter and take these to the dealer. That way you have better control of the oil change by only paying for labor and probably a miscellaneous charge for shop supplies and/or other associated add-ons. If the dealer is using a bulk oil system to fill your car, these systems may not be able to absolutely control the volume of oil that is ultimately delivered to the vehicle. Depends on how their system was designed and/or installed. If their system delivers oil +/- a partial quart, then you could be overfilled during the oil change. On the older motors (and maybe today's Detroit engines?), that might not be a big deal. On these cars, IT IS!! My 1993 SSGT calls for only 3.5 qts during an oil & filter change. I've used 4 qts ever since I bought it new in 1993 and never had a problem. 131k miles, still pulls strong and continues to get 32-34 mpg around town.
