Take a single edge razer blade and gently work it all around in the joint. Go slowly and take your time so you do not damage the surfaces. After doing the cutting, tape up the bottom piece so you can prevent damage when you use a vicegrip (set with only enough pressure to grip the layers of the tape) and gently turn the piece.

NO NO NO!

No razor blades. No vice grip. There is no glue. Bad advice!


Unscrew the bottom tapered "nut" until it's loose. Make sure it, and your hands, are very clean. You are relying on friction to unscrew it. It is silver-painted plastic. Pretty much any tools will scratch it. Wiggle the **** a little and pull straight UP. And, like Pooly said-don't hit yourself in the teeth when it pops off. It's very tight.
