Well, duh! John, thread the lugs into the holes with no wheel in place. Count turns while you do it. That will let you determine the number of threads available before bottoming out. Stick the screw through the wheel and count threads! Less showing than you counted? Good! More? Bad! It would be nice to have maybe 2 less.

The more the merrier, up to a point.
