We had a rash of cars broken into at night last year, the doors had been left open. Kids looking for GPS units, phones, cash etc. The police came around and warned everyone to lock their cars.
I found a wallet in my recycle bin, cash gone, credit cards, driving license etc intact. I gave it back to the owner, a teacher down the street, he had left it in an unlocked car.
He never even said thank you, he just took it back. Such gratitude for saving him a lot of hassle.
