Would this mod work for me? Im not to concerned with rear bass but I live midrange and crisp tweeters. I dont know what size caps will give me the crisp sounds up front or if I even need this mod???
This sort of thing is virtually impossible to diagnose from afar. Depends what sort of filter (crossover) your current electronics have and your taste in music / frequency response. If you've got a digital active crossover that you can apply to each channel, then you could likely do the same thing (better actually) electronically. But given that unlikely scenario, you've probably just got a different static high pass filter. If the FR balance between the door units and the rear subs doesn't sound right, give this fix a try. It will cost less than $20 and 30 minutes of your time to find the answer and it's easily reversed if you dont like the results.
Two 10" subs in a volume the size of the Crossfire interior is just dumb to me. I'm only interested in an accurate power/frequency response curve and natural sounding voice & instruments. The little subs in the rear of the Crossfire do just fine to below 30 Hz and balance nicely with the mids/highs with this high pass filter in place. But, if you value big thumping bass more than accuracy (flat frequency response), enjoy. It's your car. I just can't imagine getting more than a few Hz additional frequency response out of the big subs because there isn't much musical content below 25-30Hz. But level/response matching two 10" subs would be a huge problem. Still, I'd imagine hip hop fans would love the whump whump whump from the bloated bass. And no, this high pass filter won't fix that at all.
