The auto dim mirror does use electric much like an auto dim welding mask. The reason they quit using them was because of the introduction of the Roadster. The cost associated with the addition of different parts to choose from runs much deeper than the part its self that requires the addition of extra robotics! Not to mention where do you hide the wires in the roadster?
