The wipes make it a bit tricky to evenly distribute the product, IMHO anyway, so you get the appearance you mentioned. Once the excess dries back it usually looks OK, as you're discovering. Since you bought the car used, I'd give the seats a once over with the cleaner, then apply a light application of the conditioner and take it from there.
