Does the fan work at all, not just when the AC button is pressed. Set it to heat and try the fan.
If the fan is broken then the AC will not work as the unit would freeze up and get damaged. It could be just the blower resistor that's toast, $50 to $200 depending on your luck on ebay. I've seen new ones for about $150.
