Re: Uh Oh. WTF is going here. The alarm won't turn off!
Same problem here, with the alarm going on randomly at odd moments. Replaced the battery a few days ago as a shot in the dark, and no difference. Was under warranty, and it died on me over the winter while stored, so not a bad idea to do that anyways. So definitely not a battery issue.
Issue started after a pretty heavy duty wash a couple of weeks ago. My Radio Shack alarm thingie stopped beeping when I got home from the wash. Disconnected it, thought the beeper had just worn out. Short alarm chirps started the next day. Then the problem stopped for a week or so. Figured I'd gotten something wet and it dried out. Now it's happening again. Went off tonight driving home from a movie on the 401 here in Ontario. Lots of fun there, as I couldn't get off the road for about five miles. I can shut the alarm off with the fob, at least.
Anyhow, what's the general way to diagnose this? I'm not going anywhere near a dealership unless I absolutely have to. I've got a local mechanic who's good and reliable and cheap, but has no experience with Crossfires. Would like to give him some tips before I bring it in.
1. Replace batteries in key fob to see if that's sending weird signals? Never done this since I bought the car. 05 Roadster Ltd. I've had for about 2.5 years now, just summer driving. I'll do that before I do anything else.
2. Have voltages checked with multimeter?
3. Replace alarm siren under hood?
4. Replace SKREEM module? Shoot self due to insane cost of doing so at dealership?
Any advice here? I'm kind of lost between how to tell if the problem is the alarm siren and the SKREEM thingie, if I get to that point, as I imagine it's one of those.
