Built like a tank back there? No ... there really isn't a rear bumper. See my thread(s) on installing a backup camera -- I removed that rear "bumper" cover, and show pics.

The black-painted styrofoam under the carpet in the hatch is the rear energy-absorbing area.

If that pic shows the damage completely, the cover may be repairable. I'd replace that side marker though if cracked front or back, or if that paint on it doesn't come off cleanly.

Look for some tears in the cover's plastic up where it bolts to the quarter panel (two hidden 10mm bolts from above). If torn, probably time for a new/used cover. Either way, you can hand-carry the cover to a body shop and reinstall it yourself to save some big bucks. If there's sheetmetal damage, the whole car needs to go in.
