Re: When will someone fix our delayed autostick shifts!
Maybe I'm just too easy to please but the transmission in the SRT6 seems to do what I want when I want. Not sure what people are whining about. If you're topped out in 2nd gear in a corner, whether it's a manual or automatic, I generally wouldn't be trying to shift mid-corner. I'd wait until I was well past the apex to upshift. Worry about maintaining momentum and control rather than accelerating harder in a corner. It's more about choosing the right gear before the corner and carrying as much speed as possible through the turn.
The SRT6 transmission does occasionally hold a downshift a bit longer than I would in a manual in the same situation. But that's easily solved with a quick tap to the right to upshift "manually". I've found the car to require some timing adaptations from a manual transmission but if you make those timing adaptations, I'd have to say it's as quick or quicker than most drivers can clutch-shift-clutch under pressure.
Coming from an S2000, it took me a while to "get it". But after about three months in the SRT6, I feel pretty comfortable throwing the car into turns. If I have a quibble with the car, it's the stability control. Too early, too much intervention, and too long before the power comes back. I drive with it in the "off" position and the car is much more predictable absent the scary drop throttle behavior when the rear end starts to step out.
