That is a very wise thing to do and it should be a regular habit.
But the TPMS is meant to warn you of leakage while driving and before a dangerous situation occurs resulting from low air pressure. Checking the tires often, even before a trip down to the corner store, will not prevent punctured tires and the resulting air loss on that little trip. That is what the system is for, not to provide blanket coverage on air pressure maintenance. Tires used at the pressure just before the light comes on will wear rapidly and reduce gas mileage.
