Re: Official Tire Review Thread
Vehicle: 2005 SRT6 (No mods other than brake fluid and a Sprint Booster. Rotors and Pads on the track only.)
1st Set
Brand: Continental (OEM)
Model: ContiTouringContact CW95 (OEM)
Size: 225/40R18 & 245/35R19 (OEM)
Treadwear: A360 A A
Review: These tires held up fine for the short time I had them. Not easily broken loose in the rear and cornered well. They did ride pretty smooth, but were mildly noisy. I forget how many miles I put on these, but they were not even close to worn out. Didn't buy them, but probably wouldn't.
2nd Set
Brand: Michelin
Model: Pilot Sport A/S
Size: 225/40R18 & 255/35R19
Treadwear: 400 AA A
Review: These drove well, even in snow and slush. They were a bit noisy, but not much worse than the OEM tires. On they track they held well in turns and were harder to break loose than the OEM tires. They wore well and lasted quite a while... a bit over 30k I think. This includes the abuse on the front ones from the track time as well as a few long distance trips. Not overly pricy, but not a true high performance summer tire or larger size either. I would probably buy these again if I needed all season radials for long distance trips, but not for every day driving or on the track.
3rd Set
Brand: Yokohama
Model: Advan Sport XL
Size: 245/35R18 & 295/30R19
Treadwear: 180 AA A
Review: These were a bit more noisy as they wore out. These did wear quickly, probably about 15k to 20k before the rears were getting really close to the end. They also took LOTS of abuse on the fronts at the track. They had a few long distance trips too. Difficult to really break loose in the rear from a standing stop and held very well in turns on the track. Pricy, but an excellent tire all around. I would buy these again if money weren't so tight for me as they are excellent on the track and the street.
4th Set
Brand: Hankook
Model: Ventus V12 evo K110
Size: 245/35R18 & 295/30R19
Treadwear: 280 AA A
Review: These are much quieter than all the previous tires and ride softer. So far with under 2k on the clock for them, they are not wearing much at all. They seem to be easier to break loose from a standing stop but have phenomial side load grip. I suspect that after the rears were heated they would grip much better. (Not tested) These are a great deal for the sizes that I purchased. So far I like these a lot, but only time will tell.
